Great amp for old speakers with solid power and excellent support
I came across the Holo-Whas multi-room amplifier as the best solution to use pre-existing ceiling speakers (20-year-old, 6.5" SpeakerCraft speakers) spread across the house and mostly in the different rooms of the open-plan first floor. My top requirement was that it had to be friendly to everyone at home using Apple devices - from adults using iPhones to kids using iPads - and this one delivers! A custom app maps specific sound sources (AirPlay, Spotify connect, USB or Bluetooth) to any grouping of speaker zones, so everyone can have "their" preferred source. Note that a speaker can be assigned to just one source at a time, so one might have to remap the source/speakers pairs as needed. Second requirement, budget. The only competition I found is Juke Audio, which has a very similar product quite a bit more expensive - and with much less power. More on this next. Third, is sound quality. Looking at the component ratings of my old SpeakerCrafts I figured I needed at least 40 to 60W per channel. The Juke 8 only carried 20W and some of its reviews mention under-powering, so I was unconvinced. The Holo-Whas claims 60W per channel; I did not independently verify, but my speakers sing with it! The sound produced by this combination is actually very detailed and balanced, nothing metallic or tinny like I usually hear with soundbars; I might even connect a speaker-level subwoofer in the future to improve the sound further on that first floor. I also was able to connect my only two wired sources to one USB input. The first source is a Sonos Connect (for legacy purposes, since I still have older Sonos speakers in some rooms) that I connect via an RCA to USB converter (DigitNow capture card grabber, which provides excellent sound dynamics btw). The second is an HDMI ARC audio extractor for playing the sound of my TV, since unfortunately the Bluetooth audio built in the Holo-Whas has a small delay and looks out of synch with the TV picture - but no more delay via HDMI ARC. I connected the 3.5mm output of the ARC extractor to the DigitNow, and all works well. I can now send the sound from the TV in the open family room to the dining or the kitchen that looks to it. Finally, I want to mention the support has been impressive so far, just as described in other reviews. I received next-day answers to all my questions and was sent a link to the latest firmware which can just be loaded to the amp with a USB flash drive. I also understand the manufacturer plans to stand behind this product and provide replacement if it fails. All in all, this is a solid 5-star product so far. I love that it has all what is needed to power 16 speakers (8 zones) with today's wifi/Bluetooth connectivity in just one box.

Great sound and quality amp worth the setup effort
Amazon Vine Customer Review of Free Product( What's this? ) I waited quite some time to ensure that there would be a decent review written about this product. The sound quality is really great. Initially it was a little challenging for me to set up, but is actually easy to use going forward and it’s very functional. the amplifier is really good and I love that you can use it throughout the house and control just from one area, it is built with really good quality and seems like it will withstand time

Holo-Whas delivers clearer sound but software could use some work
I have two homes. One home has 2 Juke Audio multi-room amplifiers. The other (which is brand new), I used the Holo-Whas. What a difference. The Juke sound is not as crisp and sometimes there is hum. Additionally, the software constantly disconnects and I need a reboot to get it to work. The Holo-Whas has amazing, crisp and distortion free sound. Far superior to the Juke. The Holo-Whas software is still needing some love. Lots of bugs and a problem with the software needing to constantly connect. That said, it's not much worse than Juke's software. Hopefully it will improve. For some background, I connected the Holo-Whas to a Wiim Ultra. Works seamlessly. At the other home, the Juke is connected to a Sonos. I am going to pull the Sonos and connect a Wiim and see if some of the problems go away. The two Jukes are networked and I don't know if that has anything to do with the problems that I have with that platform. Anyway, for now... I feel the Holo-Whas is a better platform for crisp and clear audio

Dumped expensive VSSL gear for better equipment found at CinemaCon
I'm from Germany, and I used to use equipment from VSSL. Not only was it expensive, but it also only supported six output channels. Plus, it wouldn't fit in my rack. By chance, I ran into these guys at the CinemaCon trade show. Turns out they supply cinema audio processors to major theater chains like AMC and CGV. They also develop and manufacture this kind of equipment. I went back to Germany and chucked my VSSL gear in the trash. I got their equipment instead.
